The Super Eagles of Nigeria were subjected to unprofessional treatment as they arrived in Libya for the 2025 AFCON qualifiers against the said country.

Recall that Libya were at Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo, Akwa Ibom state, on Friday for the matchday three of the 2025 AFCON qualifiers against the Super Eagles.

Before the game, the officials of the Libyan national team claimed that the football authorities in Nigeria did not give them a befitting treatment when they touched down in the country.

During the game, the Mediterranean Knights frustrated Super Eagles players by using time-wasting tactics to end the game with a draw. Unfortunately for them, their tactics backfired as the Super Eagles finally scored in the last ten minutes of the encounter, and the game ended in a 1-0 win for the home side.

Earlier today, October 13, the Super Eagles flew to Libya on a chartered flight. They were supposed to land in Benghazi but the Super Eagles media team reported that the flight was diverted to the Al Abaq airport in Al Abaq.

The Super Eagles media team said the players and officials of the national team were “held hostage” by the Libyan football authorities for about an hour after arriving at the Al Abaq airport which was not the team’s original destination.

“About an hour to landing, the Nigerian aircraft approaching its destination, Benghazi, was diverted to another city more than a two-hour drive from the original destination,” the Super Eagles media team added.

Note that the 2025 AFCON qualifiers between the Super Eagles of Nigeria and Libya are scheduled to take place at the 10,000-capacity stadium in Benina, which has an artificial turf. The game will kick off at 8 p.m. on Tuesday, October 15.

Bottom-placed Libya are condemned to win the game if they want to stand a chance of qualifying from Group D.
