Controversial media personality, Darlington Okoye, popularly known as Speed Darlington, has been released on bail from police custody.

Human rights lawyer, Deji Adeyanju confirmed that he was arrested in Lagos last Friday and then transferred to Abuja, where he was detained.

The lawyer revealed that Darlington’s detention stemmed from a formal complaint filed by Burna Boy.

He was accused of defaming and cyberstalking the Grammy Award winner.

Darlington was released to his lawyer on Tuesday evening after meeting the bail conditions set by the police in Abuja.

Adeyanju disclosed this in a post on his X account late Tuesday.

He appreciated those who contributed to the singer’s release and commended the police in the IRT department for their professionalism.

He equally commended the efforts of popular activist Omoyele Sowore and another legal counsel, Stan Alieke, in ensuring Speeddarlington’s release.

Special appreciation to #YeleSowore, super reliable senior lawyer #stanalieke, and to all Nigerians for raising their voice for Speed Darlington. Must also appreciate Prof Sanusi and his team at IRT for the professionalism today,” the tweet read.

In a video that has now gone viral, Darlington had asked Burna Boy to explain how he won the Grammy award for his album ‘Twice As Tall’, taunting his affiliation with the embattled US rapper Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs’ who is facing multiple charges for sexual exploitation and human trafficking.
