The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has made it clear that Chelsea defender Tosin Adarabioyo would need to express a strong desire to play for the Super Eagles before he can be considered for selection.

Tosin Adarabioyo had previously rejected an invite from the NFF to represent the Super Eagles and also declined an offer from former Super Eagles head coach Jose Peseiro to play for the national team in 2023.

An NFF source told ESPN that in the said year, coach Peseiro had to fly to the United Kingdom just to meet with Adarabioyo, who was playing for Premier League club Fulham then. Unfortunately, the effort ended in futility as the defender insisted that he wasn’t ready for the switch.

However, reports now suggest that the 27-year-old English-born defender has shown an interest in playing for the three-time African champions.

The NFF source disclosed that Tosin Adarabioyo would be required to take formal steps to indicate his willingness to switch allegiances to Nigeria before he can be invited to the National team again.

The NFF also indicated that if the player is now inclined to make the switch, he would need to take appropriate actions to initiate the process himself.

“Jose Peseiro travelled to meet with him in the UK last year to speak to him about playing for Nigeria, but he told the coach at that time that he was not ready,” the source said.

“If he wants to make the switch now he knows what to do.”
